National and State Holidays in Portugal

There are many National and State holidays in Portugal that are worth celebrating! Some of the holidays are universal and celebrated throughout the world, like New Year’s Day on January 1st and the Christmas holiday on December 25th. There is the Portuguese Carnival Tuesday which is richly celebrated 47 days before Easter, as well as Good Friday celebrated before Easter. April 25 is the Freedom Day Holiday in Portugal, and commemorates the 1974 Revolution that ended the Portuguese Dictatorship and began democracy. Now that’s cause for a holiday! Also, June 10th is Portugal Day, and it’s one of the most exciting holidays of the year.
