Italy Costs and Money

Credit Cards

When traveling around Italy you are going to need the Euro. While Italy once had the Lira and in some areas still uses the Lira, the most common form of money is going to be the Euro.
Italy also takes travelers cheques and credit or debit cards.
You will find, however that most places in Italy only take the Euro, especially hotels, hostels, and restaurants.
In the cities of Italy you will find automation tellers as well as banks.
You can either exchange your money before you leave home or wait until you get to Italy.
If you wait you will find that there are exchanges at the airports as well as round the major cities of Italy.
The cost of spending time in Italy is usually about $8 to $16 per meal, and hotels are usually around $200 per night.
