Vegetarian Food

One look at the majority of Italian dishes and a vegetarian might think that he or she cannot possibly stay a day in Italy without going hungry.
But although Italians are mainly meat-loving, their country is also richly agricultural and produces many fine fresh ingredients.
The only real problem for a vegetarian traveling to Italy really would be how to say, “No meat, please.”
Generally, going south of the country would mean increasingly encountering vegetable dishes.
But it can also be as easy as punching in the number for the Associazione Culturale Vegetariana or looking in the yellow pages under “Ristorante” for “Un Punto Macrobiotico,” which are health food stores slash restaurants. If not, a travel guide may have devoted some pages on the subject.
But basically, three dishes can be made suitable for vegetarians: pizza, pasta and ensalatas (salads).
