Coffee

Coffee is perhaps the second most popular drink in Italy next to wine.
Traditionally, coffee is served as part of the Italian meal structure after Dolce, or sweet dessert.
This role in the meal order has perhaps led to the prominence of coffee in the Italian culture.
While it is served at home, coffee is served at a bar or cafe. Coffee in Italian, especially in a bar, is interchangeable with espresso, which is how it is more commonly referred to. A person traveling in Italy who orders “un caffe” in a coffee shop will get an espresso.
