Beer

Beer consumption, though growing, is not very widespread in Italy because of the historical pedestal on which is placed wine.
After all, Italy is definitely wine country, the biggest in fact.
It is the central and northern parts that have warmed up most to beer drinking out of the whole country.
Because of the notable scarcity of beer in the market, beer drinkers in Italy have had to erect microbreweries for personal and sometimes, even for communal consumption. However, the beer business is slowly gaining a foothold in the market and some Italian companies are riding the wave. Peroni is the oldest and most popular Italian brewery, and is now owned by the SABMiller group.
