Travel to Hungary by Car
If you wish, you can travel by car into Hungary from any of the seven border countries and further.
Routes from beyond the border states of Hungary will take planning however.
For instance, to reach Hungary from Belgium, you’ll need to travel through Vienna, Austria, and on then to Budapest. From the UK, a traveler will need to take the Channel Tunnel.
If you travel into Hungary by car, make sure to 1) choose a route that permits foreigners to pass and 2) buy a vignette to travel on motorways.
In Hungary, a vignette must be placed on your car’s windshield. If stopped without one, you’ll be issued a travel fine without question. Vignettes can be purchased at any gas station.
