Getting Around in Greece

Train Station

Most tourists sites are within the city center, which is easy to get around when you travel by foot, however an extensive way to travel in Greece is public transport network consisting of buses, trolley buses, minibuses and fast new 3-line underground metro service that requires a standard ticket for a 90-minute usage span.
When you travel to Europe and especially in Greece the transportation system is very easy to take. The metro is especially useful to get to Piraeus to catch a boat to travel to the islands.
The metro stations double as impressive archaeological art and artifact galleries the best under Europe standards.
Transport in Greece is cheaper than Europe, but often overcrowded especially during the siesta travel rush hour 1pm and 3pm, and operates until midnight; a limited night bus service operates along major travel routes. Bus and metro tickets are not transferable, but daily travel pass can be used on both; single tickets or packets of 10 must be bought in advance and validated when on travel. In Greece taxis are plentiful it may be difficult to travel by taxi during the siesta rush hour, and it is not unusual to share the ride with other passengers when they travel at the same direction.
