Due to a federal reform, opening hours are set by the states, therefore opening hours vary from state to state.
Most banks are open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 1pm and 2:30 to 4pm (to 5:30pm on Thurs).
Money exchanges at airports and border-crossing points are generally open daily from 6am to 10pm. Exchanges at border railroad stations are kept open for arrivals of all international trains.

Most businesses are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
Store hours can vary from town to town, but Sunday is closed for shops everywhere in Germany.
Shops are generally open Monday to Friday 9 or 10am to 6 or 6:30pm (to 8:30pm Thursday).
Saturday hours are generally from 9am to 1 or 2pm, except on the first Saturday of the month, when stores may remain open until 4pm.
As a rule
Supermarkets: 8 or 9am – 8pm
Shopping centers and great department stores: 10am - 8pm
Department stores in small cities: 10am - 7pm
Small and middle shops: 9 or 10am – 6.30pm (in big cities sometimes to 8pm)
Petrol stations: in cities and along the "Autobahn" usually 24h a day
Restaurants: 11.30am – 11 or 12am(midnight), sometimes longer, many closed during afternoon.
